Challons Combe is a local organic dairy farm off the beaten track near Aveton Gifford, Devon.
We have a herd of British Friesians, with a few Channel Island cows; we also have sheep, horses and poultry on 150 acres.
We recently built a dairy so we can process our own milk and sell it locally.
We converted the farm to organic in 1999. Since we have been farming organically we have noticed how much healthier our livestock are.
This convinced us that natural is best, so our yoghurt contains nothing but our own organic milk and live probiotic cultures which gives it a full flavour and a lovely creamy texture.
We have always tried to farm with the environment in mind, which was one reason why we converted to organic. We buy as much as we can locally and decided we would like to be able to sell locally too, which can only be a good thing for the local economy and of course helps to reduce food miles.
The quality of our produce is just as important to us as the provenance; we do not cut corners or compromise in our production methods.
When you buy Challons Combe yoghurt you are supporting the local economy and enviroment, as well as enjoying a healthy and delicious treat, ....naturally!
Traceability and Assurance
All the milk we use is produced on our own farm and we are audited annually by Organic Farmers & Growers.
Healthier for You
Challons Combe award winning yoghurt contains 3 important bio-live and probiotic bacteria normally found in the digestive tract. These 'friendly' bacteria have many health benefits and as they cannot be stored in the body they must be replaced daily. They aid and improve digestion, boost immunity, lower the risk of allergies, replace healthy bacteria destroyed by antibiotics and treat the over growth of undesirable bacteria.
Many people who are intolerant to lactose in milk and cream can eat yoghurt because lactose is converted to lactic acid during fermentation.
Our milk is pasteurised but not homogenised so our yoghurt does not contain any tiny particles of fat which could leak through the gut wall.
Organic milk generally has been found to contain higher levels of vitamins and antioxidants than non-organic milk and higher levels of omega 3 essential fatty acids which many people in the UK are deficient in. Omega 3 e.f.a.'s are needed to maintain a healthy heart, supple joints and strong bones and teeth.
